The Harborside Inn in Edgartown is a good choice for a hotel in the heart of Edgartown. The location really cant be beat if you want to be able to walk to the downtown shops, along the harbor and through the charming residential neighborhoods.
The Inn is located directly on the harbor, along the docks, and immediately adjacent to the downtown shops and restaurants. This was an extremely convenient spot for us with our two young kids. We were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds, including wildflowers and pool, and also quickly pop over to shops for breakfast items, shopping and dinner.
For me, three items made staying at this Inn very enjoyable: the view, the pool and the location.
Im a big boats and water guy. Its one of the reasons I love the Vineyard and this Inn has fabulous views of the harbor, boats and docks. You can see the docks from many rooms and you can sit in Adirondack chairs and watch the harbor activity. You can also dock your boat here for additional fees. The grounds are nicely landscaped with a variety of flowers and brick walkways and there are numerous American and nautical flags very scenic.
We have two young kids and every kid I know loves a pool. So, this was a huge hit with our kids and we were able to enjoy some reading and other downtime as well as splash around with the kids. The pool is in the center of the complex and is a medium sized peanut shaped pool. There are sun chairs and umbrellas and although we were warned it can become crowded, we were always able to find chairs and never felt as though the pool was overpopulated. The shallow area is 3 feet deep and is approximately 15 feet by 15 feet . The deep end is 8 feet deep, is about the same size and does not have diving.
The Harborside Inn is in the heart of Edgartown and guests enjoy an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the boat docks. This was a better than expected aspect of our stay. I knew the location would be convenient but we really did enjoy being able to simply walk a few hundred yards to browse in the shops, get dinner or get breakfast. I walked to Murdicks Café on two or three mornings and brought iced coffee, breakfast sandwiches and juice back to the room. This was really nice. Additionally, we were able to rent bicycles at Wheel Happy which is directly across the street from the Inn.
I havent mentioned much about the room so far Im a guy and as long as theres nothing exceedingly unpleasant about the room Im fine with it. We had reserved a street view room and when we first arrived we were fairly excited to realize that our room was on the 2nd floor across the street from the Black Dog and other shops. Unfortunately, there was also a restaurant/tavern there which was somewhat noisy late at night. My wife did not sleep well but the Inn was very accommodating and moved us to other rooms for the remainder of our stay. All the rooms were very clean and comfortable.
Were looking forward to scheduling our next visit to the Harborside Inn.
