Patrick Kennedy is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Rhode Island's 1st district.
He is the son of Senator Ted Kennedy and is part of the Kennedy family that has experienced much success as well as tragedies and pain.
Patrick's success included being the youngest member of the Kennedy political family to hold elected office, when he won election to the Rhode Island State Assembly at age 21.
He is known for advocating for better health care coverage and has received the Lymphoma Research Foundations Paul E. Tsongas Memorial Award as well as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation Congressional Honors Award.
However, Patrick has also had his share of personal problems. In 2006, he crashed his car into a stationary barrier on Capital Hill. He was not tested by a field sobriety test and was driven home by a police officer.
In 2000, a Mystic Connecticut company claimed that a boat they rented to Kennedy was found abandoned off Martha's Vineyard and required $28,000 to repair.
Also in 2000, Coast Guard records state the Coast Guard was dispatched to Kennedy's yacht off Martha's Vineyard due to an argument between Patrick and his date.
