This is a summary of our Martha's Vineyard Bike Rental experience. We rented bicycles from Anderson's Bike Rental in Oak Bluffs and had a great time !
Anderson's is located right next to the Hyline Ferry dock at the Oak Bluffs Harbor.
When you walk off the Hyline Ferry, walk left and you'll see a small house with many bikes parked outside...that's it.
Anderson's has a wide selection including men's and women's touring bikes and mountain bikes, kids bikes, tandem bikes, bikes with kid trailers and bikes with "Alleycat" extensions that kids ride while attached to your bike.
They provide a free map, locks, helmets and also offer roadside assistance if needed.
My wife and I rented bikes with the "Alleycat" extension so our kids could ride attached to us and also pedal. Our total was only $55 for the whole day.
We only had a few hours on this visit for our bike ride so we took a ride from Oak Bluffs down Beach Road to Joseph Sylvia State Beach.
We rode past the scenic Oak Bluffs Common, including some of the gingerbread style homes, and along Nantucket Sound. This is a very scenic route, traveling with the beach on your left and ponds and charming homes on your right.
We rode for about 3 miles and stopped about mid-way along the large Joseph Sylvia State Beach.
There's a bike path for about 90% of this ride and traffic here moves relatively slowly and is generally aware of pedestrians and bikers.
We stopped near the American Legion Memorial Bridge which is about 10 feet above an outlet from Sengekontacket Pond to Nantucket Sound. This is a popular jumping spot and we had some free entertainment watching some boys and girls and their dads jump off the bridge. (We didn't have our bathing suits with us on this short bike ride...but, I've jumped off the bridge in previous trips and it's fun!)
We hope you enjoy these pictures from our bike ride and have a chance to do this ride yourself.
Here's a "sea creature" that lives in a pond on the west side of Beach Road near Oak Bluffs...
