We took these pictures of the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis Port MA while we were riding the Hyline Cruises ferry to Martha's Vineyard.
The compound consists of property owned by Joseph Kennedy, former president JFK, and Robert Kennedy. The classic, white clapboard structures are similar in style to many other homes along the water on Cape Cod.
I actually worked near the compound at Hyannis Marina in 1990 and "bumped into" some of the Kennedys a few times. Ted Kennedy had his boat "Le Grande Fromage" (the big cheese), serviced at the marina and we'd occasionally see him walking around the yard. I also used to cruise around the harbor in my little 14 foot boat (did not compare to the big cheese!) and I ran out of gas once and almost ended up floating in to the Kennedy dock asking for help ! (I managed to bother someone else for gas)
These photos are a bit blurry because it was an overcast day, but enjoy them, and there are links to other websites about the Kennedy Compound...
Here is a link to the National Park service website about the Compound
If you plan to visit Hyannis, you may be interested in the Hyannis Harbor Hotel which is located in the heart of Hyannis Harbor on Cape Cod...just down the street from the compound.
The hotel has nautical themed rooms and indoor and outdoor dining with views of Hyannis Harbor.
It's also within walking distance of the famous Baxter's Fish and Chips, Spanky's Clam Shack and The Black Cat Restaurant.
If you are looking for hyannis massachusetts hotels, and plan to take the hyannis ferry to either Nantucket or the Vineyard, this hotel is a great choice for it's location and amenities.
