The Black Dog Tavern

The Black Dog Tavern is likely known best for it's black lab logo which adorns the many t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats etc that tourists buy on their visits.

The business was created by a sea captain in 1969 to fill a void in the underserved dinning market.

Many of the original recipes came from the locals and the name and logo of course came from the Captain's loyal companion.

Because of the success of these tourist clothing items, folks around the country, and world, are exposed to the black dog logo. But, one must actually visit the tavern or Black Dog Bakery to enjoy the tasty meals and deserts.

Fortunately, the "Black Dog Compound" (the business now consists of the Tavern, a Bakery, and two clothing/accessory stores) is conveniently located within a blocks walk of the Vineyard Haven Steamship Authority ferry terminal.

TIP: Because of the proximity of the Black Dog to the ferry, you can easily piggyback your visit to the Black Dog with either your arrival or departure (assuming Vineyard Haven is your travel port). This way you don't need to take part of another day of your visit.

There are also Black Dog stores in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and of course online.
